Wines of this YWE session
For some reasons most wine enthusiasts seem to pay more attention to red wines. Although white wine consumption is not insignificant, it lags red wines in garnering serious attention from wine lovers in Manila. Interesting enough back in the old days when wine was not as much an intellectual pursuit as it is today to many, white wine was the more popular order. Names like Blue Nun and Chablis were the flavor of the month throughout the 60s and 70s.
Wine lovers have matured a great deal in recent decades and palates have grown much more sophisticated and ever more demanding. At the same time, the number of choices has also increased tremendously. Wine drinkers who want to capitalize on such unprecedented shopping freedom would need to first equip themselves with basic knowledge of wine. One of the most efficient – not to mention enjoyable – way to accomplish that is to attend this kind of comparative wine tastings.
For this session, Yats Wine Cellars will be lining up five great kinds of white wines for a comparative tasting. These white wines are good renditions of a style, a region or a grape variety. More importantly, each wine delivers a distinctly different impression which is a combination of aromas, flavors and mouth-feel. The five styles of wines selected for this tasting are:
1. Chardonnay – versatile and easy to handle, responsible for some of the greatest white wines in the world
2. Sauvignon Blanc – the new darling among fans of white wine, aromatic, bright and invigorating
3. Pinot Grigio – low profile but probably the most frequently ordered white wine in bars and bistros all over the world; find out why yourself
4. Cortese – not the most famous but certainly much sought after by white wine aficionados who are disarmed by the elegance and understated charm of this attractive white wine from Gavi in Italy’s famous (red) wine region of Piedmonte
5. Chenin Blanc – a forgotten classic but fast regaining its rightful place in the ranks of the elite
Format of YATS Wine Experience – YWE – Session
YATS Wine Cellars regularly hold non-commercial wine tasting to help wine enthusiasts expand their knowledge of wine in a most enjoyable and affordable way. These tastings are different from other commercial tastings. The wines from these tastings are not sponsored by a wine merchant and there are no salesmen. You are in the company of people from all ages and all walks with one common interest – wine.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount. Each ticket comes with five tasting stubs. The wines are lined up at a wine service station. Present a ticket at this station to surrender the stubs to redeem a tasting pours (roughly 55-60ml per pour) of five wines on the line-up.
Someone will always be available to answer questions or discuss topics pertinent to the theme of the wines in the event. Otherwise the event is a self-paced tasting exercise that is the most structured and economical way to sample interesting wines.

About the Venue
We are delighted to hold this session of YATS Wine Experience in
Limbo Bar & Art Gallery
“Wesley Villarica, a celebrated young photographer noted for pushing his imagination to its limits, has recently opened his latest pursuit: Limbo Bar & Art Gallery. Despite the proliferation of bars around cosmopolitan Taguig, this concept bar assumes a distinct identity—without the pretense. Limbo is digital art gallery frequented by urban professionals, individuals from creative industries and expat communities.Step into minimalist, urbane interiors akin to a New York art gallery with monochromatic accents of black and grey. Its stark walls are illuminated by digital photographs and artworks by local and international artists. On some days, short films, movie trailers and slideshows are projected in high definition for optimum visual satisfaction.” – Asia Tatler Dining
