Stray bullet hits 7-year-old
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A seven-year-old girl from Barangay Sindalan here was hit by a stray bullet a few minutes after the New Year.
Francine Darren Punzalan, 7, a resident of Bulaon Resettlement, was wounded on her right shoulder around 12:10 a.m. of January 1.
Police investigations disclosed that Punzalan went home after playing outside when her mother noticed her swollen and bloody shoulder.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital while police are still investigating the type of gun used and where it came from.
Despite the incident, Pampanga Police Director Edgardo Tinio said the celebration of New Year in the province was “generally peaceful.”
“The New Year’s celebration in the province was generally peaceful since there were no big crimes that transpired during that time,” Tinio said.
Except for Punzalan’s case, Tinio said there were no other reported victims of stray bullets.
However, around 80 people were injured due to firecracker blasts, including two one-year-old girls from Barangay Quebiawan in this city and Barangay San Carlos in Mexico town.
Tinio has asked the public to continue their vigilance against stray bullets and firecracker blasts because other people might still use them even after the New Year.
