Private sector urged to adopt Alay Lakad scholars

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Officials of this city’s Alay Lakad Foundation recently called on the private sector to adopt poor students as scholars of the group.
This was businessman Alfrito Mah’s suggestion during the press briefing at City Hall for the annual Alay Lakad set on December 2, 2011.
Alay Lakad Foundation director Dr. Lourdes Javier said Mah’s suggestion will ensure maximum use of funds as well give hope to hundreds of poor but deserving students desiring to get good education.
“My suggestion is to give obligations to corporations and businesses which have the capacity to adopt at least a student wishing to go to school. By doing this, we can send many more poor students to public schools and state colleges and universities,” Mah said.
Javier added that since its institutionalization in 1992, the Alay Lakad Foundation has been able to send more than 700 students and finish technical and vocational courses.
“We are targeting more scholars this year and send them to all levels of schooling. We are inviting all establishments to participate and help financially as sponsors of these deserving students. The city government has always put up a counterpart funding for the Alay Lakad which goes directly to the education of the youth,” Javier said.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, meanwhile, requested the Board of Directors of the foundation to maximize the use of the funds to give scholars opportunities to raise the quality of life of their families.
“I have requested the Alay Lakad Foundation’s Board of Directors to maximize the use of the funds generated from this walk for a cause. Even if it reaches zero level, it will give hope and raise the quality of life especially of these marginalized students. It is only San Fernando’s Alay Lakad that has remained strong dahil kakaunti na lang ang ganitong activity sa buong bansa. Napakalaki ng tulong ng Alay Lakad sa ating siyudad,” he said.
Some 10,000 participants are expected to join this year’s Alay Lakad themed “Takbang keng Pamagbayu, Yampang kareng kayanakang Pilipino”.
