Peace prize founder impressed with Duman Festival, Arti.Sta Rita
STA. RITA — Gusi Peace Prize organizer Barry Gusi was impressed by the Duman Festival and this town’s theater group Arti.Sta Rita that he has passed on a public invitation for the group for the possibility of performing in one of their events in Manila.
Gusi, who was guest during the 10th Duman Festival here Saturday night, said he was delighted with the group and publicly commended the theater group after their performance in front of the Sta. Rita Parish Church here.
Arti.Sta Rita is the local theater group organized by Miss Saigon choreographer Andy Alviz.
The group is composed of volunteer artists, singers and performers coming from the different sectors of the town.
The group’s membership practically mans all aspects of the group’s theater productions.
The group promotes Kapampangan culture and traditions through songs and theater performances.
It has produced albums of Kapampangan songs and has staged performances at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and toured the United States to bring their shows to Kapampangan communities there.
Alviz and his group Arti.Sta Rita started the Duman Festival in 2002, which originated from the long standing tradition of pounding and winnowing unripe glutinous rice (lacatan) and turned into a light pale gold or green delicacy called “duman.”
Alviz said that they are honored by the offer of Gusi.
He said such reaction from prominent personalities and the locals inspire them to do better with their craft. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
