Pampanga pols sign peace pact
BACOLOR, Pampanga–Candidates aspiring for different elective positions in May joined a unity walk, prayer rally and covenant signing for a safe and fair election in the province.
The ecumenical prayer was participated by contingents of the Philippine National Police, National Police Commission, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine Army, Department of Education, students, religious groups, Muslim community, civic organizations and supporters of the candidates.
The unity walk, also participated by the same groups which stated simultaneously at exactly 6 a.m. from three points, from Cabalantian, Jose Abad Santos Avenue and Cabetican, and ended at the San Guillermo Parish Church in Barangay Cabambangan.
Among the highlights of the activity at the San Guillermo Church was the signing of the pledge by the candidates, the lighting of the unity candles and releasing of white balloons to signify peace.
The activity was organized and spearheaded by the Police Regional Office 3, headed by Chief Supt. Edgardo Ladao, the Police Regional Director.
Ladao said this is to ensure a secured and fair elections in 2013.
Among the notable individuals who attended and signed the covenant were gubernatorial candidates Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda and Eddie Panlilio; vice gubernatorial bets Dennis Pineda and lawyer Ma. Amalia Tiglao-Cayanan; Rep. Aurelio “Dong “ Gonzales; and several candidates for board member of the four districts.
Mylene Garbo Mallo and Mary Joy Estrada, both students and residents of the City of San Fernando, said they joined the unity walk and mass to pray for a clean, peaceful and orderly elections.
“Sana walang kaganapan na marahas dahil marami ang madadamay,” Mallo said.
While Estrada said, “Ako, panalangin ko na sana magkaroon ng malinis na hangarin ang mga kandidato at ‘yon ay upang makapagsilbi sa mga mamamayan. Ngayon ako makakaranas kung paano ang pagboto. Sana walang masamang mangyari.”
Further, religious groups asked for unity in achieving a safe and fair elections as they alternately prayed in public.
