Pampanga mayors want Espino to run for vice guv
ARAYAT — With more than a year before the May 2013 elections, the Pampanga Mayors League (PML) is reportedly convincing three-term Arayat Mayor Luis Espino to run for vice governor in next year’s local polls.
Sun.Star Pampanga learned this through a reliable source close to the group who said that a PML meeting took place in the house of Espino in Barangay Manga Cacutud last Wednesday afternoon.
The same source who requested anonymity said majority of the mayors “believe that Espino will be a strong contender for the second highest position in the province.”
“Lahat ng mga mayors na nag-attend ng meeting ay naniniwala na si Mayor Espino ay dapat na humabol bilang bise gobernador ng lalawigan Kapampangan, dahil sa kanyang experyensa at matagal na panunungkulan bilang isang barangay chairman, liga president at three-term mayor,” the source said.
The same source added that the mayors believe Espino will be a great help to Governor Lilia Pineda in the implementation of the Provincial Government’s programs like health services, education, infrastructure, food security, livelihood and others.
“Malaki ang tiwala at paniniwala ng mga mayors kay Mayor Espino, sa kadahilanan na naiintindihan niya ang mga pangagailangan ng mga tao sa barangay at munisipalidad. Malaki ang maitutulong niya kung siya ang magiging presiding officer, dahil makakasiguro ang mahal nating gobernador na susuportahan niya ang mga programa na makakabuti sa mga Kapampangan,” the source explained.
But Espino said in an exclusive interview over the weekend that it is still more than a year before the May 2013 elections.
“Matagal pa bago ang susunod na election, kaya hindi muna natin iniisip ang mga bagay na yan. Ang importante ay patuloy nating ibinibigay ang tunay na serbisyo at ipatupad ang mga programa at proyekto para sa aking mga kababayan,” he said.
Espino said, however, that he is greatly honored by the pronouncement of his fellow mayors.
“Siyempre, malaking karangalan na mapusuan ka ng kapwa ko mga mayors para ihabol bilang presiding officer ng Sanggunian Panlalawigan. Malaking responsibilidad ito pero maniniwala ako na kung tulong-tulong ang bawat isa sa amin ay walang imposible lalo na kung nasa puso ang pag-seserbisyo sa ating mga kapwa Kapampangan,” Espino said.
He said he has always supported the programs and projects of Pineda, since he believes that these are “pro-poor” and have benefitted the masses.
“Malaki ang respeto at paniniwala natin sa atin mahal na gobernadora, dahil sa kanyang mga programa at proyekto na ipinatutupad. Sa katunayan ito rin ang mga programa natin sa atin bayan, kamuha ng libreng paggagamot, medisina, edukasyon, livelihood, imprastraktura, peace and order at marami pang iba,” Espino said.
Other would-be candidates for the vice governor are Ang Galing Pinoy Representative Mikey Arroyo, three-term Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang and former senior board member Ferdinand Labung. (Chris Navarro)
