Micro entrepreneurs get grocery packs
December 11, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Pampanga, distributed on Wednesday grocery packages worth P5,000 to grassroots micro entrepreneurs at the Benigno Aquino Hall here.
Dole Regional Director Ernesto Bihis told Sun.Star Pampanga that the move is in line with the Dole’s objective to provide livelihood, whenever it can, to ordinary people.
Bihis said the beneficiaries would be able to start their small stores in their respective barangays.
Most of the beneficiaries are micro entrepreneurs who have the capacity to manage and sustain the livelihood project.
“Entrepreneurs are very essential in the process of creating jobs and in promoting local development. If a business prospers, this means more jobs for the people in the community,” Bihis said.
Provincial Cooperative officer Mamerto Gatus said the program is being implemented with the help of the Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO).
Gatus said they are assisting the beneficiaries by providing a seminar on managing finances and creative marketing. He said that the PCEDO facilitated the screening of over 40 beneficiaries for the program.
Gatus added that the PCEDO will give the beneficiaries the right tools and cultivate in them the right attitude to pursue their projects. “We want them to be successful.”
The PCEDO was also tasked to monitor the respective beneficiaries to ensure that each would be able to sustain their small stores. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
