Labor department helps 1,000 Kapampangan workers
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Central Luzon utilized its first line intervention for short-term emergency employment program in assisting about 1,000 marginalized workers in Pampanga.
In a report by Dole Regional Director Leopoldo De Jesus to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, the regional labor agency provided P3,000,000 worth of livelihood assistance to 1,000 marginalized workers through the Dole Intervention Livelihood Program (DILP) also known as the Tulong Alalay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD).
The livelihood assistance was released through the Dole Pampanga Field Office and the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (Peso).
The short-term employment scheme includes the cleaning of streets, canals, and clerical works to name a few.
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda lauded Dole’s quick response in providing emergency relief assistance through the 10-day emergency employment for her constituents who were heavily burdened brought by the onslaught of the previous typhoons.
Dole Pampanga Field Office head Rima Hernandez and Technical Support and Services Division for Employment and Welfare Officer-in-Charge Jesi Francisco facilitated the release of the assistance in the form of individual salaries of the beneficiaries.
Luningning Vergara, Provincial Peso Manager, said the 1,000 beneficiaries hail from 16 municipalities of Pampanga, mostly flood-prone areas and those along the riverside like Macabebe, Candaba, Masantol, Apalit, and San Simon among others.
Emerito Reyes, 50, and wife, Violeta Reyes, 49, parents to five children, from Candaba town, expressed their thanks to the Dole for the opportunity to find means of providing food and warmth in their family.
“Para sa amin, malaking bagay na po yung pagkakataon na ipinigakaloob ng Dole sa amin, lalung lalo na po ngayong kapaskuhan. Mababayaran na po naming ang aming mga pinagkakautangan at makakapag Noche Buena narin po kami ngayong bisperas ng pasko,” Reyes said.
“We are grateful that our partnership with the Peso and the local government units continues to be sustained and more importantly intensified throughout the years. Rest assured that the Dole will always be ready and alert when typhoons enter the region, our people can rely on our services,” regional director De Jesus said.
