City to recognize outstanding teacher awardee

THE local government of Angeles City is set to recognize an English teacher of Angeles Elementary School in Barangay Pulungbulo for topping this year’s Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers.
Marcela Jingo was recently awarded by President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañang after she topped the outstanding teachers list and proclaimed as the Most Outstanding Teacher among the 10 awardees.
Jingco has been teaching for over 17 years. She is known for her resourceful and innovative style of teaching where she uses teaching devices and aides made out of recyclable materials.
The awardee has also developed modules and guides for grade-schoolers, which enable them to properly learn the rudiments of the English language.
In the community, Jingco is a volunteer worker for her Christian ministry, and acts as a barangay coordinator for the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act of 2004.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan joined Jingco during the awarding rites and lauded the awardee for her commendable feat.
“I congratulate Jingco for landing in the top ten and even being chosen the most outstanding among them. Truly, this shows that our school teachers are one with the goal of the city in promoting quality education with no prejudice to rank or social stature.” he said.

The Angeles City Council led by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting also commended Jingco’s achievement during their regular session.
The 2011 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers has awarded eight public school teachers from elementary and secondary levels and two professors from University of the Philippines-Manila and University of Santo Tomas.
From 175 nominees from different public and private schools in the country, 40 were selected as regional finalists.
The finalists from the different regions underwent various interviews and teaching demonstrations before the members of the board of judges. Twenty were then chosen to become national finalists.
A Final Board of Judges was composed of Senator Loren B. Legarda and Associate Justice Martin S. Villarama, Jr. of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, among others. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
