Cebu fire damage at P30,000

CEBU CITY — Around P30,000 worth of property was damaged when a fire broke out along Osmeña Boulevard Friday evening.
The fire, which started around 8:05 p.m., gutted a tarpaulin printing shop at the second floor of Doy Building, near Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital.
Firefighters controlled the blaze three minutes after it broke out.
A certain Jovani Entoma reported the incident to Bureau of Fire Protection when he saw the fire had started to gut Large Format Printing at the second floor of the building.
No injury was reported. Female boarders residing in the third floor of Doy’s Building were rescued when they tried to escape the establishment due to thick smoke.
Entoma said the eight female boarders were rescued by the firefighters using the fire truck’s ladder.
Cebu City Fire Marshal Anderson Comar pegged the damage at P30,000.
“Sumala ni Eleonor Ybañez, ang tag-iya, duna daw explosion, then kayo na dayun (According to Eleonor Ybañez, the owner of the building, an explosion was heard, then a blaze took place after),” Comar said.
He said they are still conducting thorough search and investigation on what caused the explosion that started the blaze.
Personnel from Police Station 2 and other volunteer firefighters also responded to the scene.
Policemen conducted crowd control and road security in the area. They also closed Osmeña Boulevard for motorists and vehicles because of the incident. The road was later opened when the blaze was declared out at 9:32 p.m. (Daryl Anunciado/Sunnex)
