Laus Group of Companies executive dies
December 10, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — After a long battle with cancer, Laus Group of Companies (LGC) Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller Epitacio I. Simbulan passed away last Tuesday.
Simbulan, EIS as he is fondly called by colleagues and peers, was born on May 23, 1939, and has been with LGC for 22 years, leaving the conglomerate only on May 31 this year due to health reasons.
Simbulan graduated salutatorian of his class at Pampanga High School before pursuing college at the state university. After his BSBA days in UP Diliman, he worked his way up from being an accounting staff, then an academician, and finally to becoming an officer of LGC.
Co-workers describe him as hardworking, persevering and imbued with the marks of a true leader.
In the May-June issue of Growing Together, the LGC newsletter, Chairman and CEO Levy P. Laus aptly branded Simbulan as the “quintessential Laus Group man,” giving the best of himself to live up to his commitment and responsibility and making the best out of highly challenging circumstances.
“Even when Pete was going through rough times because of his illness, he saw to it that he did his job like he used to, as if nothing was really bothering him physically and mentally. He was exceptionally admirable! A classic display of indomitable spirit and unquestionable passion for work and dedication,” Laus said in his tribute.
LGC Human Resources Chief Chi Sangil added in the same Growing Together issue: “For many Finance Officers, he is their beacon of light as he guided them through their career and has always made himself available to assist them in their work challenges. He has not raised a voice or made anyone feel inadequate. He has always encouraged people to learn more, do more and become more. Indeed, a mark of a true leader.”
She noted that Simbulan is one of LGC’s pillars, who made a difference and added value to the organization, helping lead it to where it is today.
His remains lie in state at the family residence in Olivas Subdivision, San Nicolas, City of San Fernando. A special Mass and eulogy will be led by LGC on Monday at 5 p.m. (Jovi T. De Leon)
