Pineda wants drug test for village, SK poll bets

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Governor Lilia Pineda urged the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to require the candidates in the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections to undergo mandatory drug test to make sure that no candidate is involved in illegal drugs.

This came when the governor learned from Myrvie Fabia, DILG provincial director, that some village officials are suspected to be involved or have knowledge in the entry of illegal drugs in their respective area.
Pineda asked the agency to take measure in the identification of candidates especially re-electionists who are involved in drug use and drug pushing in their respective barangay.

“The provincial government will give its full support and cooperation to DILG for whatever measure it will take to prevent any person involved in illegal drugs operation to join the election,” Pineda stressed.

She also instructed barangay officials to monitor any of the members of their councils, the bantay-bayan and even residents and report whoever is suspected to have involvement in this illegal activity.

“It is not an easy task for the DILG and provincial government. We are asking everyone to be vigilant. Let’s work together to make sure that all the choices for this coming election are responsible leaders who will not use their authority to do illegal activities,” the governor said.
