Pineda projects helped solve classroom shortage — DepEd
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday that there are no shortage of classrooms in Pampanga towns due to the support of re-elected Gov. Lilia Pineda.
Malcolm Garma, schools division superintendent of the DepEd Division of Pampanga, said Pineda’s efforts to construct 324 classrooms allowed the province’s 19 towns to have the complete number of rooms needed for some 305,000 elementary and high school students.
“We most welcome it and we are happy that Pineda is very supportive of the public education,” said Garcia, who led on Monday a motorcade dubbed “Happy School Movement” to show that Pampanga schools are places for healthy learning environment.
Garma also thanked Pineda for initiating the repairs of classrooms and for asking the DepEd to inform her of other equipment needed by the 437 elementary schools and 106 high schools in towns of Pampanga.
Garma said “that although of classrooms are complete there are many classrooms which need repair work.”
“About 200 classrooms and that’s a conservative estimate,” said Garma.
For her part, Pineda said most of the 342 classrooms had been completed.
“We are just finishing a few portions of the few unfinished ones,” said Pineda in the dialect.
She said that the classrooms they made “are complete, better and with comfort rooms.”
“They also have the necessary fixtures such as electric fans and blackboard,” she added.
Asked for his comments, Garma said “the classrooms made by Pineda are good and they are elevated.”
Garma said that Pineda’s projects are far better than standard classrooms approved by the DepEd.
He said that the DepEd rooms have bid price ranging from P600,000 to P700,000 and its size are 7 by 9 square meters.
In the same interview, Garma said his division was given at least 800 new teachers before the 2013-14 school-year started.
Garma said there are at least 8,855 public school teachers in Pampanga, and 6,251 of whom are elementary school teachers.
Garma is the top DepEd official in Pampanga but his jurisdiction doesn’t include the province’s three cities — San Fernando, Mabalacat and Angeles. ● Joey Pavia
