Parents’ complain of illegal card game

MABALACAT — A group of parents from a village here are distressed by an illegal card game that has lured and endangered the lives of their children.

The parents, who asked for anonymity, complained about the “3-Balls Game” that operates at a vacant lot along McArthur Highway beside the Plaza Romana Building in Barangay Dau.

The game involves the use of three Ping-Pong balls and six game cards.

“This illegal game has continuously thrived despite being located some 120 meters away from the police station and barangay hall,” one parent said.

“Our children do not only get addicted to the game but sometimes get into trouble after going home late at night… They fight with other teenagers,” said another parent, who introduced himself as Mr. Cruz of Sitio Talimundok.

Cruz and his neighbors took photos of the game during the wee hours and gave them to Sun.Star Pampanga.

Willy Rivera, administrator of Barangay Dau, said they were told that a certain “Zaldy” operates the game.

In a text message, Rivera added that the game was supposed to stop its operation last week after a confrontation with the operators.

However, residents said the game continues to operate.

“It may be reaping good money because it has been there for several months already. Meanwhile, we parents continue to suffer as our children become gamblers and are in danger for staying out late at night,” the parents said.

Superintendent Rolly Mendoza, town police chief, refused to comment on the issue. (Charlene Cayabyab)
