Rimpy calls Jerry ‘Panchito’, challenges mayor to brawl

CANDABA, Pampanga–Fourth District congressional bet Juan Pablo “Rimpy” Bondoc challenged to a fistfight his opponent, Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, whom the former solon described as look-alike of Panchito in a campaign sortie last week in Barangay Pasig, this town.

In response, Pelayo said, he will not take the fistfight challenge seriously as he added that he will not “go down to the Bondoc’s level of getting nervous and throwing political tantrums.”

He claimed more local officials and supporters are on his side to boost his campaign for the congressional race.

“Ali naman boxing ing laban. Pasantingan mung mayap a pamangasiwa para king ikasasaplala ning kuwatro distrito ini (The fight is not about boxing. It’s just simply a contest for good governance for the development of the Fourth District),” Pelayo said.

Pelayo said it’s normal for Bondoc to call him names such as “Panchito”, the late Filipino comedian who became famous for his nose because the former congressman is “already sensing defeat.”

Pelayo said Bondoc is getting “nervy” and “edgy” as he is easily upset when people describe him as “John Loyd” who “has the capability to deliver the unmet needs and projects for the people of the Fourth District.”

It was learned that the mother and son tandem for gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial race, Gov.Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda and Dennis “Delta” Pineda, and six incumbent mayors – Anneth Balgan of Macabebe, Peter Flores of Masantol, Arturo Naguit of Minalin, Lito Naguit of Sto. Tomas, Oscar Tetangco, Jr. of Apalit and Leonora Wong of San Simon–declared Pelayo as their man for the congressional race in the district and they are seen campaigning for him.
However, San Luis Mayor Venancio “Asiong” Macapagal seems to be on the side of Bondoc as the incumbent mayor is a relative of former Mayor Jayson Sagum, husband of Congresswoman Anna York Bondoc, sister of Rimpy.

Reports have it that all mayoralty bets in Candaba who are slugging it out with Patrick Pelayo, son of the incumbent mayor, are on the side of Bondoc.
The fight for the congressional race in the district is getting hot each day as the two political opponents are exchanging verbal tussles which most of the time are “below the belt,” political observers said.

Governor Pineda said she would appeal to both camps to take it easy and be a vanguard of peaceful election particularly in the eight municipalities of the district. • Elaine Mercado
