Mamac denies collecting money from bar girls

ANGELES CITY — Balibago chairman Rodelio Mamac denied reports that he is collecting money from bar girls in the entertainment district.
Mamac was reacting to published reports that he is collecting P150 per entertainer for every month.
The barangay leader clarified that an organization called Proactive Establishment of Concerned Entertainers (Peace), which was organized by the barangay council, is imposing to its 20 member-establishments monthly dues amounting to P150.
Establishments will shoulder the monthly dues for their entertainers, Mamac said.
“For example, if an establishment has 10 workers, then it should pay P1,500 per month to the organization,” he said.
According to Mamac, Peace was organized in adherence to the Angeles City Aids Council guidelines that nightclubs and other similar establishments should be a member of a duly accredited organization.
“There is no such thing as protection money being collected from bar girls as reported in some newspapers,” Mamac said.
The funds, which will be collected by Peace, will be used for the salaries of tourist police, cleaning of canals, beautification of the area, among others, Mamac said.
He also said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were invited during a consultation meeting at the barangay hall last December 9 in celebration of the Anti-Human Trafficking Month (December).
Representatives of the CIDG talked about the issue on human trafficking during the meeting. The NBI, on the other hand, sent to personnel to the meeting, according to Mamac.
Mamac opined that Peace may coordinate with law enforcement agencies like CIDG and NBI in policing its own rank.
The village cited the hiring of minors and human trafficking by some unscrupulous bar owners.
“We are not tolerating human trafficking and hiring of minors. If an establishment violates a law, then it should be penalized,” Mamac said. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
