Lawyer eyes petition to allow Arroyo to ‘get some sunlight’

DESPITE criticisms of special treatment, lawyers of ex-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo are eyeing to file a petition that will allow her to leave her room at a government hospital so that she can get some sunlight.
This was announced by her counsel Raul Lambino on Monday, adding that her camp’s primary concern is to attend to the case accusing her of electoral sabotage.
Arroyo is disallowed from leaving the presidential suite of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she is under hospital arrest.
“Bago kasi sya payagang makalabas sa presidential suite, ay kailangang may permiso ang korte,” Lambino said, adding that even her doctors at the St. Lukes Medical Center (SLMC) in Taguig City had prescribed that regimen.
Once filed, her petition to leave her room will take precedence over other existing requests, including but not limited to allowing her to use a laptop and a cellular phone inside her suite.
“Bagama’t prayoridad namin ang kanyang kalusugan, hindi ibig sabihin iaatras na namin an gaming naunang kahilingan na payagan syang makagamit ng laptop at cellular phone,” Lambino said.
The two pieces of equipment will allow her to continue her work as a Pampanga representative as well as enable her writing of her memoirs.
Her camp has also filed a separate request to have her celebrate Christmas at their residence in La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City.
Arroyo was transferred to the VMMC upon the order of Pasay RTC Branch 112 Presiding Judge Jesus Mupas after staying for two weeks at the SLMC after she and her husband, former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, were prevented from leaving the country ostensibly to seek medical treatment abroad for a bone disorder.
Mupas’ order specifically states that Arroyo should be “confined” at the VMMC’s presidential suite for the time being or until her condition considerably improves. (AH/Sunnex)
