Ex-mayor: Electoral sabotage rap is harassment

ANGELES CITY — Former mayor Francis Nepomuceno described as harassment the plan of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan to charge him with electoral sabotage.
Nepomuceno said he will answer all of the allegations of massive cheating during the May 2010 elections in the proper forum.
Nepomuceno said winners in the last polls should not be the ones filing cases against losing candidates.
He also said the mayor is displaying guilt and insecurities.
For his part, Mark Allen Sison, spokesperson of Nepomuceno, said in a text message, “Obviously he has not moved on. Why so early for political harassment? The next election is more than a year away.”
Pamintuan, meanwhile, said Nepomuceno “registered himself in the history of quitters” when he withdrew his electoral protest after he declared he was winning the count.
“His electoral protest succeeded only in producing evidence that he tampered with the ballots in a desperate attempt to cheat the last elections,” Pamintuan said.
“As I have announced earlier I have readied a case for a non-bailable capital offense electoral sabotage against him immediately after the Comelec (Commission on Elections) recount that he initiated but abandoned was uncovering the truth,” he added.
Pamintuan, in light of the black propaganda continuing to stream out, said he is now constrained to revisit and strengthen the case and file it in due time.
“I advise him to prepare his defense. Unfortunately, because the charge is non-bailable, he will have to do that in jail if the fiscal finds probable cause in the charge,” the mayor said.
On Monday, Pamintuan announced he is set to file an electoral sabotage case against Nepomuceno following non-stop black propaganda allegedly perpetrated by the latter.
During the May 2010 elections, Pamintuan gathered 60,562 votes, while Nepomuceno got 34,105 votes during the May 2010 mayoral race.
Last May, Nepomuceno filed an election protest contesting the canvassed results in all of the 185 clustered precincts in the city.
Nepomuceno said the ballots were tampered in favor of Pamintuan.
