Pacquiao back in Philippines

MANILA (Updated 9:20 a.m.) — Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao arrived in the country Monday after his recent win against Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao, together with his wife Jinkee, arrived around 8:30 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport aboard the Philippine Airlines flight 103.
The pound-for-pound king was welcomed by his four children Jimwel, Michael, Princess and Queenie who brought long-stemmed red roses.
In his arrival speech at the airport, the boxing icon maintained his win against Marquez but said he is not satisfied with his performance.
“Ang paniniwala ko ay panalo ako…Pero di ako kumbensido sa performance ko,” he said.
Pacquiao won his trilogy fight against Marquez by a controversial majority decision.
All three fights of Pacquiao with Marquez ended in a close decision. The two fought for the first time in May 2004 that ended in a draw. They had a rematch in 2008, when Pacquiao won via a split decision.
The judges in the recent fight scored 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112, in favor of Pacquiao.
The Saranggani Representative was able to retain his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown but due to a very close fight and his apparent “poor” performance, some boxing fans and analysts questioned his victory even believing that the decision should have been a draw or Marquez should have won.
But Pacquiao said he knows he won the fight, which he said was a close one.
He also told Filipinos who questioned his win against Marquez to accept the truth and be real.
“Magpakatotoo ka… Pilipino ka ba talaga?” he said.
The boxing icon also thanked his family, fans and the Filipino people for supporting him in his fight against the Mexican boxer last November 13 (Philippine time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
He said he is happy that he is back in the country and said he will spend more time to his family and to his duty in Congress.
Pacquiao and his family will attend mass at Quiapo Church later in the day.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao will be feted a hero’s welcome in Sarangani on November 24.
The grand hero’s welcome for Pacquiao would be in time for the opening of the province’s 9th MunaTo Festival.(Sunnex)
