41 top criminals nabbed in July
MANILA — Alleged terrorist group members and suspects of an infamous massacre were some of the top fugitives arrested in July, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
Police Director Samuel D. Pagdilao, CIDG chief, said in a report that 41 suspected members of organized crime groups were nabbed last month, while 193 of the 320 most wanted persons were “neutralized.”
Among those arrested include alleged Abu Sayyaf members Ahmad Asanin alias “Abu Arsad” and Jumli Orie Manjuri alias “Salam.” Maguindanao massacre suspects Dexon A. Saptula alias “Rene Matuti” and Police Officer 1 Abbey Solaiman Guiadem were also captured.
The CIDG also seized 45 assorted firearms and 1,343 pieces of ammunition in July.
Pagdilao said these accomplishments and efforts in running after criminal gangs, wanted suspects, and loose firearms are part of CIDG’s main thrusts and are also in time for the 2013 polls.
“Besides keeping the peace, we want to ensure we will have peaceful elections next year this early on,” Pagdilao said.
The CIDG also helped in rescuing 16 minors from child abuse and 53 women from prostitution, while seven illegal recruiters were arrested.
P2-million worth of pornographic materials and an estimated P77-million worth of counterfeit and smuggled items were also seized last month.
Early this month, the PNP revealed that from January to July of this year, 16,702 wanted persons were arrested and 131 other wanted men surrendered, while six others who resisted arrest were killed.
Among the arrested individuals were 74 criminals belonging to the list of top most wanted persons (TMWP) with rewards offered by authorities for their capture.
On July 25, more than P2.4 million was awarded by the PNP to 16 confidential informants who provided information that led to the arrest of 17 TMWP. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex)
