4 in the hook for stolen fuel
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga–Four persons were arrested for illegally transporting and trading petroleum products in Limay, Bataan last Sunday.
Arrested were Joener Fabida, 36, driver; and truck helpers John Lee Delgado, Michael Cervantes and Rogelio Bolo.
Police said they received an information about an Isuzu tanker loaded with diesel illegally taken from a barge at Barangay Sisiman, Mariveles, Bataan.
The informant told police that the truck is engaged in illegal trading and transporting of petroleum without licence or authority from the government.
Police authorities immediately set up an “Oplan Sita” checkpoint along Roman Super Highway in Sitio Tundol, Barangay Reformista, Limay town.
At about 3 a.m., the truck driven by Fabida was flagged down but the driver refused to stop.
A hot pursuit ensued until, finally, the truck was intercepted along the Roman Super Highway by pursuing police personnel.
During the investigation, police learned that the tanker truck is registered to Marilou Aquino Valeriano of Katrina Village, Dona Francisca, Balanga City and owned by ELOMAR Trading.
Police said the truck was loaded with approximately 5,000 liters of diesel.
Police said the suspects could not present documents, such as permit to transport from the Bureau of Fire protection and licence to operate from the Department of Energy to sell or distribute petroleum products.
Police said another vehicle, which served as a security escort of the tanker, evaded the pursuing policemen.
The men in the other vehicle were later identified during investigation as Rodolfo Cuevas, Mandy Valeriano and Jayson Cortez, all residents of Limay, Bataan.
Also recovered from Fabida were bullets of a caliber .45 handgun.
Police said the suspect will be charged with violation to certain prohibited acts inimical to the public interest and petroleum products.
The suspect are now under the custody of the Limay Police Station. ●Froilan Magtoto
